Call For Proposals
The 6th Interdisciplinary Society for Quantitative Research in Music and Medicine (ISQRMM) conference will be held virtually on June 3rd, 2023. The purpose of the conference is to explore questions and techniques regarding the efficacy of music and health. The conference will be held via Zoom with live presentations and panels, and prerecorded performances.
Keynote Speaker
We are pleased to announce that Dr. John Stuart Reid will be our keynote speaker for the 2023 conference.Dr. Reid is a renowned UK-based acoustic-physics researcher specializing in audible sound therapy, where he examines the healing properties of sound on a wide range of scenarios including but not limited to soft tissues and broken bones to sound treatments that support the body by ‘destructive’ principles, such as the shattering of kidney stones, to brain’s pleasure centers, leading to hormonal secretions and ‘feel good’ effects. Dr. Reid will address the intriguing topic on sound healing at the cellular level.
Submissions
ISQRMM is seeking proposals that focus on all aspects of the relationship of music to medicine in both quantitative and qualitative approaches. These proposals must be grouped in interdisciplinary research including but not limited to:
The ISQRMM will therefore consider all aspects of research that addresses music as it relates to medicine and health.New and unpublished information with erudite scholars in the field are welcome. ISQRMM invites all musicscholars and allied health practitioners to submit proposals.Master’s and Doctoral students are also encouraged to participate. Presenters on complementary and alternative therapies on the human body, mind, and soul are welcome as well as cultural approaches and social science studies in quantitative research-based approaches.
Submit an abstract of no more than 200 words in word.doc, with a curriculum vitae as e-mail attachments to proposals2023@isqrmm.com
Panels
In addition to individual paper proposals, full panel proposals may be submitted. Panels should include a description of the panel, the abstracts for the papers in the panel, as well as curriculum vitae for the participants. Include the authors’ names, affiliations, email addresses, contact phone numbers and presentation format.
The ISQRMM adheres to a blind review process and therefore identifiable information will be redacted when the submission is sent to reviewers. The deadline for submission is March 1, 2023
Authors of accepted proposals are required to register for the conference. We are happy to offer a discounted registration fee of $50 to all the presenters. Registration information is available here.
